Movember 2018

Movember 2018

Movember was established in 2003 with the aim to focus on the awareness and fundraising for 3 key areas of men’s health – prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health and suicide prevention. The charity is committed to men living happier, healthier and longer lives.

1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime – statistically obese men are more likely develop prostate cancer than those whom are a healthy weight.

Testicular cancer is the most common type of cancer in men, with those aged between 25-49 being most at risk. Studies have shown that every 4 extra inches on top of a healthy waist measurement increases a man’s risk of diagnosis by 13%.

12.5% of men are suffering from a mental health condition, with over ¾ of suicides committed by men, making it the biggest cause of death in men under 35.

At The Healthy Employee, we advocate a strong sense of health and wellbeing and closely follow the research and findings that contribute towards the link between certain illnesses and diet. Food is a hugely persuasive factor when it comes to establishing the bets form of health. Healthy food choices strengthen and boost your immune system, mood, resilience and energy, giving your body the very first defense against illness.

The World Cancer Research Fund stated that a diet rich in vegetables and fruit does have a protective effect and may decrease the risk of certain cancers. Prostate Cancer UK have stated that staying active and maintaining a healthy weight could protect you against many diseases, including prostate cancer.

Leading a healthy lifestyle with regards to diet, exercise, sleep, hydration and work-life balance is essential in paving the way to protecting ourselves against many diseases.
