The Spanish Eating Out Guide

Below you will see our extensive ‘eating out’ guide. This is simply a rough guide as to which meal choices are to be avoided, savoured, or indulged in. We have concentrated on starters, mains and side dishes. This is because if you are choosing to have 2 courses, you should choose starter and main, rather than dessert. Sides can also be helpful in bulking out a main course with extra veggies and salad.

Spanish food can be quite potato laden, so instead of filling up on the stodge, indulge in things such as prawns, cured meat, fresh fish and delicious tomato and pepper sauces.

AVOID SAVOUR INDULGE
STARTER – Pollo en salsa (chicken thighs in creamy mushroom sauce)

– Croquettes

– Sweet peppers stuffed with cream cheese

– Bread & olive oil

– Chorizo sausage

– Marinated lamb skewers

– Pork meatballs in tomato sauce

– Grilled prawns

– Seafood soup

– Asparagus in Serrano ham

– Cured meats

MAIN COURSE – Pastry parcel (chorizo, cheese etc)

– Tortilla da patatas (Spanish onion & potato omelette)

– Fishcakes

– Vegetarian lasagna (with mushrooms, courgette & aubergine)

– Seafood/vegetable/chicken paella (go easy on the rice & have with a side salad & avoid chorizo)

– Sea bass fillet in meditteranean sauce

– Huevos Rancheros (baked eggs in spicy tomato & peppers)

SIDE – Potatas bravas (fried potatoes in spicy sauce) – Olives – Large green salad

– Sauteed vegetables
