Piers Covill - 'It's not rocket science, just takes effort and is quite easy to fix.'



Piers is the General Manager of Solution Architecture with SCC UK Services. Piers leads a busy working and social lifestyle.

Piers decided to take part in the 12 week healthy eating programme because he felt he had bad habits around food and wanted to make improvements. Often he would buy food in a hurry, knowing he wasn’t always making the best choices. The primary reason for Piers was not about losing weight, rather he was aware that he wasn’t feeling as well as he would like and instead felt irritable and susceptible to mood changes, lethargic and lacking in energy.

12 weeks later, at the end of his programme, Piers has made significant changes to his diet. He now includes much more fruit, vegetables, lean proteins and water. He is surprised by how cutting right back on tomato ketchup, sugary drinks such as juices and cordials and coffee and how cutting out bread has significantly improved his mood. Piers says ‘I feel much less irritable and sleepy in the afternoons’. The quality of his sleep has improved also.

Piers takes regular exercise, going to the gym and riding his bicycle and now says ‘after the programme I now find taking exercise is much easier and a much more pleasant experience. My knees were quite sore and the doctor said to go away and lose 10kilos, he was unsympathetic!’

Weight loss began to happen for Piers early on in the programme. During his weekly calls weight loss became a topic of conversation and then became his primary goal – ‘It’s not rocket science, just takes effort and is quite easy to fix’ says Piers.

‘Going to the supermarket to buy food was a distraction to wanting a glass of wine. The weight came off easily. Not once have I sat and felt hungry or craved anything. I have felt satisfied. I have tried other diets such as very low calorie diets and felt like climbing the walls. This is different, I have not craved anything.’

‘The benefits I have found are an increase in self-confidence which helps me to do my job with the energy to apply myself to do the best I can. This has given me more energy and made me feel less irritable. I would get tired an annoyed and put off tasks until the following day instead of finishing them off that evening. Now I finish my to-do list and start new stuff too.’ Its’ nice having people tell you you’ve lost weight, I have lots of extra holes in my belt. I am definitely going to continue with the healthy eating and planning. I was in Sainsbury’s last night planning supper and the food for the bank holiday weekend.’
