Veg Pledge for Cancer Research

Sign up to Veg Pledge for Cancer Research this November. Cancer Research are challenging you to go veggie or vegan for the whole of November to raise money towards cancer research. You can find loads of tips, tricks and inspiration on fundraising ideas and how to get started on your meat-free month long diet on November 1st – simply click here.

Eating a plant-based diet can be healthy and nutritious. Current advice for healthy eating is the same for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. That being, a diet that is:

  • Low in saturated fat, salt and sugar
  • High in fibre

Research shows that although only 2-3% of the UK population is vegetarian or vegan, although 34% of us have made a conscious choice to decrease our overall meat intake. This is likely due to the health and environmental benefits that have been highlighted recently.

The benefits of a plant-based diet:

  • Reduced risk of heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes
  • Lowering blood pressure and cholesterol
  • Promoting a healthy body weight
  • Reduced risk of certain types of cancers
