World Health Day

World Health Day has been celebrated for 70 years. Each year on April 7 the campaign creates awareness of a specific health theme to highlight an area of concern for the World Health Organisation. This day serves as an opportunity to focus your own health ideals, and how you can improve them to better support yourself and those around you.

Take this opportunity to reflect on your own health status:

  • What areas of my health can I improve?
  • How will my health improvements increase my quality of life?
  • How will those around me benefit?
  • What will be my plan of action to achieve my health improvements?

Establishing the improvement you wish to make to your health and how to reach them will enable you to segment your goals into reality.

Examples of lifestyle improvements could include:

  • Spending more time outside
  • Incorporating more exercise into your week
  • Spending quality time with your children
  • Walking the dog for 10 minutes longer each day
  • Trying a new fruit or vegetable every other day
  • Cutting down on sugary snacks
  • Decreasing your coffee intake
  • Eating breakfast each morning
  • Drinking enough water each day (at least 1.5-2L per day)
  • Decreasing your alcohol intake (no more than 14 units per week, spread evenly throughout the week with at least 2 consecutive alcohol-free days)
  • Embarking on a new hobby
  • Taking dedicated time for yourself each week
